2025 MEDICARE: Agent & Broker Pay Day Changes

How insurance agents will be compensated for helping seniors?

By Staff Reporters

***

***

Health insurance agents offering support to seniors signing up for healthcare coverage will be compensated differently starting in 2025. For example:

The government will pay $100 more per enrollment to agents who sign seniors up for Medicare Advantage Plans or Medicare Part D for the first time — a significant increase from the proposed $31 pay increase for agents.

And, Medicare is ending sales incentives for agents who currently receive bonuses, including volume-based bonuses, for signing people up for Medicare Advantage Plans, Medigap Supplement Plans or Part D. Medicare is also putting a stop to agents and brokers collecting “administrative fees” above the fixed compensation cap the government has put in place.

The hope is that providing agents with fair initial compensation will no longer incentivize them to steer seniors towards plans that may not be a good fit.

DAILY UPDATE: Apple Market Cap Up as Major Stock Indexes Ease

By Staff Reporters

MEDICARE ANNUAL ENROLLMENT ENDS

***

Apple regains a $3 trillion market cap and is on track to end the year as the world’s most valuable company for the 5th time in a row.

Today marks the 82nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that drew the US into WWII.

Here’s where the major benchmarks ended:

  • The S&P 500® index (SPX) was down 17.84 points (0.4%) at 4,549.34; the Dow Jones Industrial Average® (DJI) was down 70.13 points (0.2%) at 36,054.43; the NASDAQ Composite® (COMP) was down 83.20 points (0.6%) at 14,146.71.
  • The 10-year Treasury note yield (TNX) was down about 5 basis points at 4.117%.
  • The CBOE® Volatility Index (VIX) was up 0.10 at 12.95.

Energy shares were again among the market’s weakest performers as crude oil futures extended a slump, closing below $70 per barrel for the first time since late June on concerns over slowing global demand. And, Liz Ann Sonders of Schwab said a “somewhat stealthy” rotation continued under the market’s surface, with the S&P 500® Equal Weight (SPXEW) and Russell 2000®(RUT) indexes outperforming both the S&P 500 and NASDAQ over the past month or so. She also noted a defensive tone to Wednesday’ trading, illustrated by strength in utilities and weakness in technology.

It’s open enrollment season for health insurance – Now What!

How do I compare my health insurance options during open enrollment?

Daniel J. Antokal MBA
[Financial Advisor]

daniel

The decisions you make during open enrollment season regarding health insurance are especially important, since you generally must stick with the options you choose until the next open enrollment season, unless you experience a “qualifying” event such as marriage or the birth of a child. As a result, you should take the time to carefully review the types of plans offered by your employer and consider all the costs associated with each plan.

With most health insurance plans, your employer will pay a portion of the premium and require you to pay the remainder through payroll deductions. When comparing different plans, keep in mind that even though a plan with a lower premium may seem like the most attractive option, it could have higher potential out-of-pocket costs.

You’ll want to review the copayments, deductibles, and coinsurance associated with each plan. This is an important step because these costs can greatly affect what you end up paying out-of-pocket.

When reviewing the costs of each plan, consider the following:

  • Does the plan have an individual or family deductible? If so, what is the amount that will have to be satisfied before your insurance coverage kicks in?
  • Are there copayments? If so what amounts are charged for doctor visits, specialists, hospital visits, and prescription drugs?
  • Will you have to pay any coinsurance once you’ve satisfied the deductible?

Specific features

You should also assess each plan’s coverage and specific features. For example, are there coverage exclusions or limitations that apply? Which expenses are fully or partially covered? Do you have the option to go to doctors who are outside your plan’s provider network? Does the plan offer additional types of coverage for vision, dental, or prescription drugs?

Assessment

In the end, when reviewing your options, you’ll want to balance the coverage and features offered under each plan against the plan’s overall cost to determine which plan offers you the best value for your money.
