Halloween (also spelled Hallowe’en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31st. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints.
Today, it is largely a secular celebration but some have expressed strong feelings about perceived religious overtones.
Here are two interesting and popular ME-P articles for this Halloween season.

Homes near cemeteries
According to one analysis, houses within 50 feet of final resting places actually may bring in more money per square foot.

The internet is taking over a person’s life for Halloween.
A MIT project called BeeMe is turning over an actor’s free will to the internet tonight [Halloween 2018] to put the hive mind to the test.
The experiment: Users will be faced with the task of stopping a rogue AI from taking over by guiding an actor’s actions. How they do that is completely up to the internet. Their only tools will be quick suggestions and voting, which will guide what happens in the real world. While a general plot has been put in place, the creators didn’t want to limit the interactions too much. It will last about two hours, if people stay on track.
Why do this? Besides being a fun Halloween experiment, the MIT Media Lab researchers are hoping this will give insight into how crowds work together. It could provide clues as to how such systems can be put into practice in more serious situations.
