Staring Down the Enemy
[By Staff Reporters]
We have skirted around this issue before on the ME-P; as well as our related physician-executive leadership, risk-management and career development essays in our books and print publications.
But now, we look directly into the face of the terminal demon/beast.
So, her is a powerful look at the growing problem of physician suicide by two leading physicians and expert-bloggers Michael Lawrence Langan MD; an ME-P “thought-leader” – as well as a video by Pamela Wible MD.

Angel of Death
An Italian nurse nicknamed “The Angel of Death” is in jail in Italy under investigation for the murder of up to 96 patients in the course of a single year in the hospital ward where she worked – that’s one death every three days between April 2013 and April 2014.

If found guilty of killing all those patients, she will be classed one of the most prolific serial killers in history.

Does medical student debt lead to suicide?
Every year 300 to 400 physicians commit suicide. More than 10 percent of doctors are thought to have depression, a frequent precursor to suicide. Rates of depression and suicide among physicians are higher than in the general population.
Many reasons including stress, heavy workload, sleep deprivation, lack of autonomy, and lack of outlets for personal care may contribute to higher vulnerability in doctors.
