“Independence Day” on July Second?

Did you know that today is the real Independence Day?

The Continental Congress formally declared freedom from Great Britain on July 2nd, 1776, but approved the Declaration of Independence two days later.

John Adams was so sure that July 2nd would be the date of the holiday that he wrote, “I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival … It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade with shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations.”

The Dangers Lurking in Public Swimming Pools

Did you know that recent reports show that nearly half of all Americans admitted to contributing to an unhealthy pool environment while even more are simply ignorant of the risks?

The Statistics

While, it is disgusting, it seems that 17% of adults admit to urinating in public pools.

So, during this Fourth of July Holiday, please take a minute to learn how to protect yourself and others this weekend, and summer.

More Yucky Info

20%, or 1 in 5 people pee in the pool.

Yep, that which we’ve always known to be true – because everybody secretly does it – has now been confirmed. People pee in the pool. One-in-five respondents to a survey by the Water Quality and Health Council admitted to contributing to the myriad disgusting contaminants already backstroking happily around the average pool.

Also, seven in 10 people don’t bother showering before diving in. Their sweat, sunscreen, dead skin, and other filth combines with chlorine to give you the red eyes and rashes you enjoy so much.

So next time someone goes all quiet while they’re kicking back in your pool, you might want to direct them to a bathroom.
