2022 IRS Mileage Reimbursement Rate

Here are the 2022 IRS mileage reimbursement rates for businesses, individuals, and other organizations:

  • 58.5 cents per mile driven for business use. This is an increase of 2.5 cents from the 2021 rate.
  • 18 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes for qualified active-duty members of the Armed Forces. This is up by 2 cents from the 2021 rate.
  • 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations. Because the rate is set by statute it hasn’t changed from the 2021 rate.

  1. For 2009,

    The IRS has announced the 2009 mileage rates to be 55 cents per mile for business, 24 cents per mile for medical and moving and 14 cents for charitable mileage.

    This marks a decrease in the amount from the 2nd half of 2008 rate of 58.5 cents per mile for business, 27 cents per mile for medical and moving and 14 cents per mile for charitable mileage.

  2. 2012 Mileage Rates

    The IRS announced the 2012 standard mileage rate. It’ll stay the same as in 2011: $0.555 per mile. If you drive your own car for a business, most employers reimburse employees at this rate.

    Beginning on Jan. 1, 2012, the standard mileage rates for the use of a car (also vans, pickups or panel trucks) will be:

    ■ 55.5 cents per mile for business miles driven
    ■ 23 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes
    ■ 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations

  3. Mileage rates for 2014 are decreasing!

    Standard mileage rates for 2014. Notice 2013-80 provides that the standard mileage rate for transportation or travel expenses is 56¢ per mile for all miles of business use (business standard mileage rate).

    The standard mileage rate is 23.5¢ per mile for use of an auto (1) for medical care described in Code Sec. 213; or (2) as part of a move for which the expenses are deductible under Code Sec. 217. The standard mileage rate is 14¢ per mile for use of an auto in rendering gratuitous services to a charitable organization under Code Sec. 170. (Notice 2013-80, Sec. 2)

  4. Mileage Rates 2015

    IRS has announced that the standard mileage rate for owned or leased autos (including vans, pickups or panel trucks) will increase by 1.5¢ to 57.5¢ per mile for business travel after 2014.

    This rate can also be used by employers to provide tax-free reimbursements to employees who supply their own autos for business use under an accountable plan.

    The rate for using a car to get medical care or in connection with a move that qualifies for the moving expense will decrease by 0.5¢ to 23¢ per mile.
