The Solution – Tomorrow’s Technology Today
www.patienttrak.net was created in order to easily and affordably allow emergency departments and healthcare organizations track and monitor patients with a simple web browser. The design of PatientTrak.net makes registration and flow management user-configurable options suitable for most any healthcare department or organization.
Dry Erase Boards
With many healthcare organizations using “dry erase” boards, or no tracking system at all, a computerized patient tracking system provides a more accurate and complete picture of the organization’s patient flow. Some other tracking systems require large upfront investments, involvement of several IT personnel, and significant training needs. PatientTrak.net was designed to be a simple, inexpensive solution that serves the needs of the healthcare department.
A Vision of Simplicity
In the twenty-first century, healthcare organizations can no longer operate in an environment where the expected pay-pack period for IT projects is measured in years (elapsed period of time before the project’s benefits outweighs the costs). With changes in technology must come changes in the expected return-on-investment. The founder of PatientTrak.net believes that improvements in technology should make it easier and more cost effective to implement new systems, as shown in their Cost Comparison Report. These cost improvements should be recognized in all areas of the IT project, including contract negotiations, installation, system configuration, training, and period-end data analysis. This is the vision of PatientTrak.net.
The Inventor
Michael Buist MD, inventor of PatientTrack, experienced not one, but two near-death experiences due to medical errors. An internist in Australia, he went on to invent Patientrack, a program that reportedly improves the timeliness of doctors attending to their hospitalized patients.

Assessment
PatientTrak.net is reported to provide a high-level of product features, while still maintaining the simplicity that is fundamental in the initial design of the product. In addition to the hosted service provided by PatientTrak.net, the system can also be implemented on an in-house server for those who desire an internally hosted application.
Microsoft Health Tech
And so, we are pleased to be able to share information about Mike and PatientTrak on the newest episode of Microsoft Health Tech Today, the on-line video series at the intersection of health and information technology. The March program premiers on February 25th 2010, and is hosted by Microsoft’s worldwide health senior director Bill Crounse MD.
