The Traditional System
Ever wonder that happens when you call your doctor’s office after hours and someone picks up the phone? The office is not open at midnight if that’s what you were wondering. Most physicians / doctors / medical professionals have their phones forwarded to an answering service after hours!
What does that mean?
Well, it means that no matter what time it is you can always reach your doctor.
Check out the above infographic to learn out how the call routes from your cell phone to the service to the doctor.
Assessment
Now, with all these steps, it is no wonder modern doctors are using cell phones, iPads, direct or open access online patient scheduling systems.

My On Call [Answering Service] Survey of Doctors and Financial Advisors
It seems as if every stock-broker and FA in the business wants to “be like a doctor”.
And so, I conducted an informal, and not-statistically significant, survey on their on-call [answering service] after-hours availability.
METHODOLOGY:
I made ten random after-hour phone calls to physicians in ten different states. I did not know any of them. I did the same to ten different and unknown FAs, also in ten different states.
RESPONSES:
Here is a typical response from all ten of the FAs:
I will be away from the office for several days and will not return until July 28th. I will only have intermittent access to email so I may not be able to respond promptly. If you need immediate assistance, call Debra Smith at 920-885-8833. I’m sure someone else will be able to assist you.
Yet, in each case, I was able to speak with a “live” phone operator/nurse for each of the doctors.
Think about it.

Answering Services
This infographic and ME-P should be sent to all private medical practices. It is very important to get the point across to those in the healthcare industry who have not adopted medical answering services.
