An Exercise in Crowd-Sourcing

By Chris Thorman

I just finished an essay about market share in the EMR industry and I wanted to give ME-P readers a heads up about it.

Here is the link: http://www.softwareadvice.com/articles/medical/ehr-software-market-share-analysis-1051410/

Essay Content

In the article, I break down:

  • The size of the outpatient EMR market;
  • What EMR vendors have the most physicians using their system; and,
  • What EMR vendors have the most practices using their systems?

Assessment

As I’m sure you can imagine; it was a tough project to get accurate numbers on. And, I’d like to get more eyes on it so we can clear up any discrepancies.  Sort of a ME-P reader “crowd sourcing” project if you will. So, all thoughts on our findings are appreciated. 1. Getting Down-er on eMRs

    Did you know that a new study published by the journal Health Services Research shows “there are some real negatives that come with the positives of EMRs?”

    For example, the researchers analyzed data from more than 300 California hospitals that adopted some form of eMRs over a decade from 1998 to 2007.

    Contrary to expectations, they found EMR implementation was actually linked to higher hospital costs, and in some cases, lower quality of care. Wow; what a surprise!

  2. I win more turf

    Another victory for D. Kellus Pruitt DDS, as the ADA Advocacy page no longer claims that electronic dental records will save money in dental care!

    Did you copy that, @ADANews? I won again!

    Background: 5 days ago, I went to 8 component ADA organizations’ Facebooks and posted my concern about misleading HIT information on the Advocacy Page. Since then, the ADA’s claim that eDRs will save money in dentistry has been removed. Do you think it was a coincidence?

    @ADANews, I cannot be stopped.
