   Also, according to the Vox website, annual spending compared to other sectors is as follows:

   • Public schools ($610 billion dollars per year)
   • Hospital administration ($218 billion dollars per year)
   • Food stamps ($80 billion dollars per year)
   • Professional sports ($67 billion dollars per year)
   • Spending on pets ($56 billion dollars per year)
   • National Institute of Health ($30 billion dollars per year)
   • Foreign aid ($23 billion dollars per year)

   Medicaid Covered 45% of Children in Rural Areas in 2015

   Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families recently released a report on Medicaid coverage rates in rural areas. Here are some key findings:

   • In 2014-2015, Medicaid provided coverage for 45% of children rural areas.
   • Medicaid provided coverage to 38% of children in metropolitan areas.
   • The rural adult uninsurance rate in expansion states fell 11% from 2009-2015.
   • The rate of uninsured children in rural areas declined in 43 out of 46 states.
   • The national rate of uninsured rural children fell by 3 percentage points.
   • CO, NV, NM, OR, and SC saw declines of 8 percentage points from 2009-2015.
