The Rise of the Hospital Giants
Hospital consolidation has dramatically increased in recent years, and studies have shown that hospital mergers and acquisitions result in rising prices, less competition and an increase in hospital negotiating power. So, we ask:
* Are health care “goliaths” increasingly dictating the prices and premiums we pay?
* What steps can government and private companies take to lower prices and improve quality in markets that have undergone consolidation?
* What is your opinion of this of trend in hospital consolidation?
Please clarify what’s at stake for consumers, and give journalists fresh ideas for reporting in new, incisive ways.
