The conversion to electronic medical records [eMRs] is “vulnerable” to fraud and abuse because of the failure of Medicare and CMS officials to develop appropriate safeguards, according to a sharply critical report just issued by federal investigators.

AMA opposes meaningful use prepayment audits
Following a recommendation from the Office of the Inspector General within the Department of Health & Human Services for more oversight of the Medicare EHR Incentive Program, the American Medical Association has voiced concern about a potential hardship to physicians in the form of pre-payment audits.

Delay unlikely for medical device excise tax
The White House has clearly indicated no intention of allowing delay of a 2.3 percent medical device tax slated to go into effect on January 1st, 2013 as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). And, President Barack Obama’s message is that device companies will benefit monetarily from an influx of new healthcare consumers through provisions of the ACA.
