CMS’ Open Payments Program Posts 2015 Financial Data

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has published the 2015 Open Payments (sometimes called the “Sunshine Act”) data, along with newly submitted and updated payment records for 2013 and 2014, at https://openpaymentsdata.cms.gov.
The Open Payments program requires that transfers of value by drug, device, biological, and medical supply manufacturers to physicians and teaching hospitals be published on a public website.

In program year 2015, healthcare industry manufacturers reported $7.52 billion in payments and ownership and investment interests to physicians and teaching hospitals. This amount is comprised of 11.90 million total records attributable to 618,931 physicians and 1,116 teaching hospitals. To find out what any doctor received in 2015, click here.

Review Your Open Payments Data Before it Becomes Available to the Public
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will publish the Open Payments Program Year 2016 data and updates to the 2013, 2014, and 2015 program years on June 30, 2017. Review and dispute for the Program Year 2016 Open Payments data publication began on Saturday, April 1, 2017 and will last until May 15, 2017. Physicians and teaching hospitals must initiate their disputes during this 45-day review period in order for any disputes to be addressed before the June 30th publication.
Physician and teaching hospital review of the data is voluntary, but strongly encouraged. While the opportunity for physicians and teaching hospitals to dispute any data associated with them expires at the end of the calendar year in which the record is published, the disputes must be initiated during this 45-day review and dispute period, ending on May 15th, in order to be reflected in the June 30th publication.

CMS Launches Data Submission System for Clinicians in QPP
Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that doctors and other eligible clinicians participating in the Quality Payment Program (QPP) can begin submitting their 2017 performance data using a new system on the Quality Payment Program website (qpp.cms.gov). The data submission system is an improvement from the former systems under the CMS legacy programs, which required clinicians to submit data on multiple websites.
Now, eligible clinicians will use the new system to submit their 2017 performance data for the Quality Payment Program during the 2017 submission period which runs from January 2, 2018 to March 31, 2018, except for groups using the CMS Web Interface whose submission period is January 22, 2018 to March 16, 2018.

Review and Dispute Open Payments Data Reminder
Program Year 2017 Open Payments data is available for review and dispute through December 31, 2018. On June 29, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services(CMS) published Program Year 2017 Open Payments data along with updated and newly submitted data from previous program years (2013-2016). Program Year 2017 data and newly submitted payment records are actively available for review and dispute through December31, 2018.
Physician and teaching hospital review of the data is voluntary, but strongly encouraged. If you have not previously reviewed the Program Year 2017 data, Click here to review the publically available data. If you believe any records attributed to you are inaccurate or incorrect in any way, you may initiate a dispute and work with the reporting entity to reach a resolution.
