A new analysis by the Health Care Cost Institute revealed that up to 43 percent of the $524.2 billion spent on healthcare by those with employer sponsored insurance in 2011 was spent on “shoppable services.”

National Health Spending is $3.4 Trillion This Year
Altarum Institute’s Center for Sustainable Health Spending recently released data regarding national healthcare spending. Here are some key findings from the report:
• Health spending is $3.4 trillion this year.
• National health spending in August 2016 was 5.5% higher than in August 2015.
• Spending on prescription drugs grew by 4.3%, despite higher growth in prices.
• In August 2016, health care prices were 1.9% higher than in August 2015..
• At 6.3% growth, drug prices are at their highest level since December 2014.
• Health care added 32,700 jobs in September, less than the 37,000 job average.
