  1. National Premature Death Rate Increased 1% From 2014-2015

    County Health Rankings recently released their 2017 raking report. Here are some key findings regarding premature death from the analysis:

    • In 2015, 1.2 million people died prematurely, or 39,700 more than in 2014.
    • 85% of the increase was due to more deaths among adults ages 15–44.
    • Premature death was highest among American Indians/Alaskan Natives and blacks.
    • Rural counties have the highest premature death rates.
    • Premature death rates rose 1% from 2014-2015.
    • Drug overdose was the leading cause of premature death by injury in 2015.
