39 Hospitals Are Receiving The Maximum Readmissions Penalty of 3%
Kaiser Health News recently released an analysis of Medicare readmissions penalties as part of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program. Here are some key findings from the report:
• Medicare will lower a year’s worth of payments to 2,545 hospitals due to excess readmissions.
• The average reduction is 0.69%, and 613 hospitals are receiving a penalty of 1% or more.
• The number of hospitals receiving the maximum penalty of 3% dropped from 56 to 39 this year.
• 2,176 hospitals are exempt, and 83% of the 3,080 non-exempt hospitals received a penalty.
