Explained -OR- Not?
[By Dr. David E. Marcinko MBA]
An investigation by The Associated Press has many dentists grinding their teeth.
The report found there was no credible evidence to back up the claimed benefits of flossing, a habit trumpeted by oral hygienists and dentists everywhere.

Why this is personal for me?
OK – I admit it. I dropped out of dental school before attending medical school. Mea Culpa!

TRUST in healthcare is the issue? NOT flossing.

FLOSS
Floss is a tool of limited use – it only cleans between teeth. A toothbrush is a universal tool. It can be used to clean all surfaces of teeth. Floss is complicated. Brushing is simple. Demanding that patients floss sets most of them up to fail.
Urging them to simply spend a little more time with a toothbrush – in an effective and thorough manner – is reasonable advice patients are more likely to use to improve their health. It’s important. Bacteria from gum disease has recently been linked to Alzheimers disease as a possible risk factor.
