Men flock to testosterone meds from Abbott, Lilly

Are testosterone drugs another hormone-replacement ordeal in the making?

Some doctors think so, Bloomberg reports. The testosterone products, including AndroGel from Abbott Laboratories ($ABT) and Axiron from Eli Lilly ($LLY), are selling like ice cream on a hot day, and they’re expected to keep growing at that pace.

    ProPublica recently published an analysis on doctors taking industry payments from pharmaceutical and device companies. Here are some key findings from the report:

    • 66% of physicians nationwide took industry payments in 2014.
    • 8 in 10 doctors working at New Jersey hospitals took payments in 2014.
    • Less than 3 in 10 Kaiser Permanente doctors took a payment in 2014.
    • Vermont had the lowest rate of industry interactions at 19%.
    • For-profit hospitals had the highest rate of payments to doctors at 75%.
    • Federally owned hospitals had the lowest payment rates at 29%.
