For Men and Women

There are many factors that affect those at risk for contracting an STD. Many times individuals don’t know or understand which things put them at risk of infection. Some STD’s can be transmitted in surprising ways. For those at risk, regular comprehensive testing can help prevent unintended transmissions. Furthermore, early diagnosis of some STD’s can greatly improve treatment options and avoid hassles associated with full blown infection.

  1. Few Americans with HIV have virus under control

According to the CDC, here in Atlanta, only 28 percent of the 1.2 million Americans living with HIV have the infection under control, increasing the risk that they will spread the disease to others.

  4. Pesky germ inspires first complete ‘virtual organism’

A microbe that causes sexually transmitted infections now has a much more awe-inspiring claim to fame: It has become the first organism to be completely simulated by a computer model.

The bug in question … Mycoplasma genitalium … is a good candidate for scientists to reconstruct using a computer, because it is truly tiny, with only 525 genes (By comparison, humans have about 20,500 genes).

So, does this mean virtual public health?
