In the next few weeks we will be releasing our thirteenth annual edition of our administrative performance benchmarks for health plans. It is the culmination of 450 health plan years of experience with all major sectors of the health plan industry. The attached brochure briefly describes our 2010 benchmarks.
Weak Employment Environment
Many health plans are convinced that effective management of operating costs is central to their long-term success. This is especially the case in the current challenging environment. The weak employment environment pressures revenue yields and membership, forcing rationalization of operating costs. The weak credit environment heightens plan sponsor interest in self-insurance, which increases the visibility of administrative expenses.
Finally, health care reform heightens the interest in operating costs by external audiences. Accordingly health plans serving more than one-half of all insured Americans are users of our benchmarks.
Assessment
Our benchmarks enable your plan to quickly determine whether it is operating at best practice and to identify which functional areas provide the highest return on management’s efforts to improve performance. I hope you will not hesitate to contact me if I can answer any further questions.
