  1. Prescription Drug Spending Will Average 6.3% Growth From 2017-2026

    The CMS Office of the Actuary recently released national health expenditure projections up to 2026. Here are some key findings from the report:

    • The insured population is projected to decrease from 91.1% in 2016 to 89.3% in 2026.
    • Spending growth is projected to average 6.3% for prescription drugs from 2017-2026.
    • Over 2017-2026, growth in personal healthcare spending is projected to average 5.5%.
    • Medicaid is projected to average 5.8% annual growth over 2017-2026.
    • Private health insurance spending is projected to average 4.7% over 2017-2026.
    • Medicare is projected to experience 7.4% spending growth from 2017-2026.
