  1. Majority of U.S Medical Students are Women

2019 was the first year that the majority of U.S. enrolled medical students were women according to data released on December 10 by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

In 2017, women comprised the majority of first-year medical students. Applicants to U.S. medical schools have increased for women while those for men declined. (Stuart Heiser, Senior Media Relations Specialist, AAMC: Dec. 10, 2019).
