    Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) recently analyzed outpatient opioid prescription expenses for adults. Here are some key findings from the report:

    • In 2017, total outpatient prescription opioid expenses for adults totaled $7.7 billion.
    • Hydrocodone and oxycodone accounted for $3.5 and $2.2 billion of total expenses.
    • Total outpatient prescription opioid fills for adults totaled 110.4 million.
    • Hydrocodone, oxycodone, and tramadol accounted for over 85% of these fills in 2017.
