  1. 1 in 5 Physicians Want to Cut Back Work Hours Over Frustrations

The burden and bureaucracy of modern medicine, not to mention technological frustrations, inflict a toll on U.S. physicians and appear to be major factors influencing their intentions to reduce clinical work hours or leave the profession, according to new research by experts at the American Medical Association, Mayo Clinic, and Stanford University.

The research calls for a comprehensive approach by national policy makers and healthcare providers to address the challenges.

Published in the new issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings, the findings show roughly one in five physicians intend to reduce clinical work hours in the next year. And, about one in 50 physicians intend to leave medicine for a different career entirely in the next 2 years.
