Black Licorice May Be A Bad Halloween Treat

The Polarizing Food

By Staff Reporters

“I love it”                                                                               “I hate it”

Black licorice is a polarizing food — people either love it or hate it.

FDA Warnings

For those in the former category, the FDA has a word of warning: don’t eat too much of the stuff this Halloween. And if you’re 40 or up, be particularly careful about raiding your kid’s plastic pumpkin, since eating 2 ounces of black licorice a day for at least two weeks can possibly lead to an irregular heart rhythm.

  1. What’s more, the sugar in that much candy will rot your teeth at the most inopportune time.

  2. Let Kids Gorge on Halloween Candy

Darrell – This Halloween, many dentists are telling parents that it is okay to let kids gorge themselves on candy.

There’s no reason to be spooked. Dentists aren’t hoping to make money on the inevitable windfall of rotting teeth. The fact is, if you’re going to eat candy, gorging is far better for your teeth than rationing.

  3. I agree, Colleen. It takes time for the sugar to become acidic. So if one gobbles a bag full of sweets before brushing it is much less likely to form decay than sipping a Dr. Pepper all day.
